The county of Piloña is surrounded by several ranges of mountains, sierras and peaks: from the height 150,5 m. above sea level where Infiesto is located, to the peak of Vízcares, the highest in the county, at its 1419 m. whose name was taken by the local mountaineering group.

Asturian Romanesque artis represented by the church of Santa Maria of Villamayor, the southern face and apse of which date from when it was a Benedictine convent, famous not only for its power but also its laxity. In fact in 1377 and 1530 the ecclesiastical authorities deposed the abbess, divided its members among other nearby convents and eventually annexed the convent to that of San Pelayo of Oviedo. The apse is characterised by half columns and two horizontal lines between which there is a traditional window. It is constructed with excellent ashlars in which the stonemasons' marks, in capitals, are clearly divisible

The strategic position of the municipality of Piloña within Asturias allows mountain and beach lovers to be a stone's throw away from both environments. Other municipalities on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea are located very near Piloña; these are Villaviciosa, Colunga y Ribadesella. They all have several beaches, which tend to be of fine, golden sand, although here we mention only the most important ones. The approximate distances from Infiesto to the beaches of Villaviciosa are 33 km., 30 km. to Colunga and 38 km. to Ribadesella. 

Fresh products from vegetable gardens, farms and high mountains are the pillars of the cuisine in Piloña. There is always a choice of traditional stews, from kale and cabbages to potatoes and rice, always with a touch of saffron and, most probably, with another touch of ham and chorizo. Quite well know are also free-range chickens and rabbits. And, of course, the full variety of Asturian cheese, taking in account that Asturias is the richest region in Spain for cheeses.

There are many hiking trails within the county of Piloña, most of them around the surrounding mountains and without proper indications. Our Association, ASPITUR, with the precious help of the local mountaineering Group Vízcares, published in 2006 auseful book: it gives indications and maps to hike 13 walking trails, 6 by bike (BTT) and one for the adventurous sport of descending into a river gorge.

This Asturian county enjoys the privilege of different Natural Parks, protected landscape and various woods that deserve a visit.
